2023 Hanukkah Film Festival

Menemsha Films, the largest distributor of Jewish and Israeli films, is hosting another Hanukkah Film Festival and it’s FREE from now through December 20, 2023. Click HERE to select the films you want to watch. You will see that the festival goes until December 15, but that date has been extended by five

days for our community!

The Hanukkah Film Festival features eight features, including two we would like to highlight.

Nicky’s Family is a gripping documentary that tells the mostly unknown story of Sir Nicholas Winton, a young Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Jewish Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II. As a result of his heroic efforts, today there are over 6,000 descendants who live all over the world. In 2024, One Life, another film about Sir Winton will open in theaters throughout the country. Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins will portray Sir Winton

An Act of Defiance is a riveting historical drama, in which 10 political activists (including Nelson Mandela and his inner circle of Black and Jewish supporters) face a possible death sentence for conspiracy to

commit sabotage after they are arrested by the apartheid South African government during a raid in the town of Rivonia during the summer of 1963. Bram Fischer (exceptionally played by Peter Paul Muller), a sympathetic Jewish lawyer, risks his career and freedom to defend these men, attempting to hide the fact that he, too, frequently convened on the farm where they were arrested.

Celebrate Hanukkah with a Taylor Swift parody from the Y-Studs, the Yeshiva University a cappella group. It contains their version of Taylor Swift’s 2009 hit “You Belong With Me” called “You Can Light With Me (Y-Studs Version).”

The SJFF mission is to showcase thought-provoking, entertaining films that inform, inspire, and celebrate the Jewish story for audiences everywhere.
